Dual Monitor problems

Hi. I just bought myself an LCD TV, and I was planning to use it as a second monitor with my pc. I've got a GeForce 6600GT and my ordinary monitor uses VGA, so basically, I've got the DVI connection free, and a TV that supports DVI. The TV is an Acer AL2671W and I'm running the lastest official nVidia drivers. My problems are:

* The computer fails to realise that the TV is actually digitally connected when I use the DVI cable. The computer just sees it as another analog screen. I've tried all different settings (dualview, clone etc.) but I can't get the TV to display anything, it just says no signal. I got the screen to work through DVI once, when I unplugged the PC monitor and rebooted, but I've never been able to get it to work again after that.

*When I use the VGA cable with the DVI->VGA connector, the computer thinks that the TV is digitally connected. Sometimes, I get the TV to display things, but it doesn't seem to work if I use the PC monitor as primary unit, and I want it to be. Usually though, only the PC monitor works.

I've got nu clue how to deal with this. I've tried searching google, but it's pretty much impossible to find anything helpful, DVI, VGA etc. is mentioned pretty much everywhere.

The ideal case would be if I could run dualview, with the PC monitor as primary unit. The native resolution of the PC monitor is 1280*1024, and the TV's is 1280*768, so cloning really isn't an option. As it is now, it's possible to get the TV to work most times through VGA, but only if i use clone. I mean the picture is OK, but DVI is much better :)

Your 2 DVI outlets are for monitors. You do have a S-video outlet to run video on your TV.

But why is there VGA and DVI connections on the TV then? VGA does work occasionally, and I've gotten the impression that VGA is much better than S-Video.

If you can get the TV monitor as a computer desktop, well......

I'll always used the TV monitor to playback my video during post production. never the other way around.

The LCD-TV can be used as another screen by DVI; I have a friend who uses the Viewsonic 27" LCD-TV via DVI at 1280X720 and it looks gorgeous!

Are you sure the TV is configured correctly? Cycle through the video inputs to make sure the TV has DVI selected.

I wonder if Nvidia cards have problems recognizing LCD-TV's - my friend was using an ATI card (which are known to have a bit better multi monitor support).

Btw, do not run Svideo on the TV- it will look like crap and probably won't be able to drive the screen at its native resolution.

You may have to go into the driver options and turn off "display only compatible resolutions/refresh rates" and just manually input 1280X768 @60 Hz (or 1280X720, which I think most LCD-TV's use and yours might use as well!).
