Dual Monitor doesn't work after fresh install of XP (kinda)

I've got an S3 Trio 64 (PCI) and a GF2 (AGP) in my system. With nVidia's 71.84 drivers, my dual-monitor setup worked just fine.

I formatted my computer last night and my dual-monitor still worked fine (with the default nVidia drivers that shipped with the OS).

When I install the 71.84 drivers again, the install process seems to go fine, I reboot, and all of a sudden my dual monitors are not working anymore. The S3 works fine, I just don't get a picture on my 2nd monitor which the GF2 is connected to.

I looked in the display properties and sure enough the checkboxes "Extend my desktop" and "use this as my primary monitor" weren't checked. When I check the boxes and apply the changes, nothing happens. The boxes just uncheck themselves and I still have no 2nd display.

Any ideas?

Why is the AGP your secondary monitor? Can you go in and turn on monitor two and then turn off monitor one (try to force windows to get the display up). And then turn monitor one back on (via display properties) Does that do anything?

Dual monitor doesn't work if my AGP card is the first display. I'm not sure why, but I was told (by another member on the forums) that my S3 card simply will not work as a seondary card.

I use the S3 as the primary card on boot, but when windows loads it switches to my GF2 as the primary display.

In general it does. I'm guessing the S3 is pretty old, some of those cards don't play well with others. Is the bios on on the S3 (sometimes there is a jumper to enable/disbable it). You'll want it disabled. Also, do you have a bios setting for primary display? If so, what is it set to?

The bios is set to initialize the PCI video card first. There are no jumpers on my S3 card.

I've given up on it at the moment. I'm trying to install all my other programs first and I'll go back to my video card after.
