Dual DVD Burners

I just ordered a combo SATA/PATA controller card, which would allow me to connect a spare DVD burner that I have. But, I recall that there is something in XP's registry that only allows 1 burner (even though my combo drive was also listed as a burner and seemed to work okay). I'm curious if this limitation is the same when going through a controller as when directly connecting to a PCI slot?

Nero 7 "retail" will burn two DVD's at a time.

With Nero demo and retail versions you can write to four recorders.</a>"

I'm not sure where you read about XP only allowing 1 burner. I've had 2 DVD burners in my computer for over a year without any problems.

I'm not sure where I read that either, it was on a forum, but not here. I do know that somewhere in the registry, that it lists the drive types as either 1 or 2. Can't remember which is which, but one is for a DVD burner, and the other for a CD drive...I think. However, since you have had 2 DVD burners without a problem, I imagine that what I heard was wrong.

Whatever you heard is wrong, or maybe was applicable to some (much older) version of Windows. You can install as many CD/DVD burners as your heart desires.

Edit: Well, at least until you run out of drive letters. 😛

I think you'd have issues with running out of PCI/PCI-E expansion slots before you would need to worry about drive letters 😉
