Dual Displays with Windows XP

Alright, I am sure there are a bunch of you who know what I am going through. I am what some might call an EverQuest addict, and enjoy the perks of having two computers to work with (surfing the web while waiting for HP to regen, and to look up maps, quests, and other vital in game info without having to log) Anyhoo, the old puter that I had been using for this purpose just died on me, and it isn't worth the time or money to me to try and fix it (I may get around to it one day) So, I am trying to do the next best thing, and that is to set up two video cards and monitors. My primary display adapter is an ATI All-In-Wonder 8500 DV, and I am trying to put in an old S3 Virge in as the secondary (it won't be for any gaming, just basic web browsing) Well, I get the S3 installed, rebooted, and now when I go to the device manager, it says device cannot start error 10. Now before I rebooted, it had said something about not enough resources. I am really not a hard core hardware guru, so I figured I would bring it to the boards. Thanks in advance.

not all video cards work together and be sure they are not sharing the same irq.

Well, this has really been a kick in the butt. Last night, after posting my original msg, I tried a different card. This card was not even recognized by XP, so there was no chance in getting that work since it was so old. Well I went to put the original S3 card back in, and now windows wont recognize that one either, it is simply list as Video Controller (VGA) and it won't install because windows can't not find the software needed for installation. I know this one works under XP, because I had it working in the same system 15 mins earlier, not to mention I had it this system originally while waiting for my AIW 8500dv. So now my question has evolved into several questions.

Does anyone know how to get Windows XP to recognize and install the S3 ViRGE GX?
Does anyone have or know where I can find updated drivers for Windows XP?
Does anyone know how to get this card to work with the AIW 8500dv for a dual display setup?

Thanks in advance.

Your secondary card's BIOS and drivers must be multi-VGA capable too. Chances with really old cards are they aren't.

PSST!

Make the ViRGE card the primary display in BIOS. You can reverse that setting once you are in XP.

-SUO, been there, done that
