Dual-Display Question

I put together a new system and I toss in the 2nd vid card and get the dual-display working. Strange thing's happening. When I boot up the system, monitor 2 displays everything up to the bootscreen, then monitor 1 kicks in to display my windows login screen and then everything else. Anyone have a clue what's going on?

I've found that it will automatically display the bootup on both screens, then when you get to Windows, unless you specifically enable the second monitor, it will turn it off.

Go to the Display properties and enable the second monitor, then it should work when Windows loads.


There is nothing wrong with your system, it's how it works.

Windows thinks the other one is primary. The other settings you need to play with are in your bios.

Yes. The one displaying the initial Windows bootup loading screen, is the one that the BIOS considers the primary display. The video card that Windows' considers the primary display, is often the one that has had its drivers installed last. You can also choose inside Windows Display Properties which display you want to act as the Primary.

If you don't want to use one of the displays at all, you should disable it in Device Manager. (Had to do that for some boards with onboard video, that didn't automatically disable it when installing a seperate video card.)

I did try to change it in the windows display properties, but for some odd reason another problem I've been having is that as soon as I click "apply" the pc reboots itself and goes back to the previous setting.
