Dual DDR question

Hello,
I have a GigaByte 7NNXP MoBo with 1 gig of ram installed (2 x 512.) Now I want to bump it up to 2 gigs and there are 2 slots available, but I'm a little confused on what to get. From the manual there is some talk about Single Sided and Double Sided, and to keep the system running dual channel I would have to get 2 more 512 sticks. So according to the manual for 4 sticks going from dimm 1 - dimm 4 have to fallow this configuration (DS/SS) ^ (DS/SS) ^ (SS) ^ (SS). So that's the DS/SS stuff I don't really understand... so if anyone can help me I'd really appreciate it. :gift:
Thanks

But most importantly, why 2 gigs of ram?

This isn't my rig ... it's a buddy's and he uses photoshop... also he just WANTS 2 gigs. 😱

I have a RElated question that may help get THIS one answered:

Will adding a 256MB stick of OCZ PC3500 (2:3:3) to EACH channel of my CURRENT Mushkin PC3500 (2:3:3) work well TOGETHER in Dual Channel for my OC'd P4?

Here's my current Munchkin 2x256

Here's the OCZ i just bought 2x256 for $90 (monarch computers had a price mistake last night in hot deals i took advantage of . . . dead now) 😛

Here's NEWEGG's LINK: HERE OCZ

Will they play together in my abit ic7?

Double sided means that the memory chips are on both sides of the stick.

That manual is saying that only Channel A (DIMM 1, 2) will support two sticks double sided memory when running in dual channel mode. So assuming the sticks you have now are double sides, to have 2 GB in dual channel mode, you'll have to either buy 2 single sided sticks of 512 memory or a single stick of 1 GB memory (either single sided or double sided).

This is true but I have seen single sided 512 sticks before. But good luck finding it and even 1GB sticks are going to be rough @ PC3500.

Thanks for all the tips guys😀
I'm going to tell my buddy that it might be best to just get one more stick of the same double sided ones we have or hunt down those single sided sticks.
Thanks again.
