Dual CPUs?

Ok I'm about to build this sweet dual Athlon MP 1600 computer for my dad. Now I want to use SETI on it for awhile and I was wondering which was faster... Using 2 text based clients at the same time (my friend said that each client would use a different processor, but I dont know if he's lying) or just use 1 client at a time?

I prefer to use SETI Driver. It will automatically start 2 instances of the "text based" Client. It also will give you the ability to cache workunits which is very helpful in the event that commections to SETI servers are not possible.

I second what IsOs said. SETIDriver is probably the easiest, least fuss way of running two CLI clients on a dual processor system.

Just set the number of "Processes" to 2. (or however many processors your system has.

Good luck!

Just so you know that there are people doing it differently, I do use a CLI on each processor with SetiSpy to monitor each process; I also maintain a SetiQ server in my house that each cpu gets/sends work from/to. 🙂

At the time I tried setting up SetiDriver I had a ton of problems and gave up, but since I knew how to use the CLIs correctly and already had a SetiQ running, I just stuck with what worked. 😉

I sortof do a a mish mash. BTW - NWM, I literally just installed the 2 Xeon III 550s! It POSTed and I'm booted back up again! 😀 I'm gonna see how it does with the pproxy stuff on it before starting SETI up. I know the 2K AS on it is not in too good of shape but based on my observations of better stabilty when the ambient in the room was down in the 50Fs :Q, hopefully these HS/fans will help tremendously! 😀

With respect to SETI, my dually is my farm's Setiqueue box plus I have Setidriver on one CPU. The Setidriver points to the local Setiqueue as extra insurance. The other CPU normally uploads directly to the local Setiqueue or to SETI.
