Thinking to upgrade to a dual, already have a P3 600, can i add a 800 or p33 or whatever to a dual mobo?

so the end is P3 600 and p3 xxx on the same dual mobo.

Is that possible?

I beleive it is possible to have two different speed procs running given the bus speeds is the same. Anyone ever tried this? I know i have seen it some where

As far as I know, definitely not.

Usually for a dual CPU setup, you ought to find CPUs with identical stepping.
If you can't, you could go +/- 1 stepping but you really should avoid it if you can.

Different speed CPUs are don't even come close to the same model, let alone stepping.

Also the motherboards should only have a single setting for the CPU speed that sets it for both CPUs.

you can have 2 different cpus with different speeds, but i definitely would not recommend it. i've had a celeron 400 running with a 466 at default speeds without a problem before i sold the 400 and got the 466 for overclocks to 583. it greatly depends on the quality of the motherboard, not to mention the chips. 600 and 800 might not cut it, also depends if one's katmai and the other coppermine. as far as i know, most bx motherboards will default to the speed in the first slot/socket, and that's what'll be displayed during post.

i heard somewhere, microsoft suggests same speed processor, and even that the processors are sequencial in serial numbers, meaning the processors got made one after the other...

dunno, i just heard this somehwere else

The MSI MS-694D allows the user to set each CPU's voltage, and multiplier (though PIII's are locked so that setting is useless anyway). Only the FSB is a single setting. I beleive that's what you mean?

Why don't you buy another P3 600, it would be a much better option then using another clocked CPU. Some boards like VP6, wont boot sometimes when trying to use a different clocked CPU (from what I hear).
