Dual Core XP Application

Could someone please make an app for dual core affinity in XP? Many of us would appreciate it, and greatly benefit from it. The idea comes from this thread here.

We want it so that we don't have to set affinity by hand. Just an idea. Thanks!!

Why not just set the priority high for the game process? Since the game is single threaded it will probably hog one cpu and the window load manager *should* be smart enuff to dedicate the 1 cpu for the high priority process (i.e. the game) and let everything else work on the the other CPU.

In windows XP I can simply right click on a process in taskmanager and select its affinity. By default they are all set to both processors, but for testing purposes you can very easily only select 1 processor. Back when I was setting the machine up, I used affinity to run prime95 twice at the same time, one on each processor. I also can't run EVE or EQ1 with 2 processors as they run too fast and become out of sync.

I'm too lazy to do any benchmarking though.

I'll get right on that for you.

Oh, my savior, thank you so much. I will pay homage to you all the days of my life, and be thouest bondservant forever, even beyond death... Was that supposed to be sarcastic? or not?

I undertand that you can do that in task manager, but it is temporary. I was thinking of something permanent that recognized all background processes, and automatically reserve a core for the app that takes the most space. Is there something that does this? If not, I was just thinking, mind you, not commanding, that if someone wants a project that many people here would benefit from, they could try it. I'm not sure how much work would be involved, but to my peeny brain, it seems not that complicated. 🙂

EDIT: zbox, I just looked up your link. My main rig is down right now, so could you tell me exactly what that app does? I'll try it soon, but would like to know about it first.

you got your idea from that thread, but like, I've made that app for you already, for download. It'll do exactly what you asked. You can make it run when you start up, it'll assign all the processes to cpu1, then you can also make your game shortcuts launch the game onto cpu 2. I don't get why you made this thread?

sorry if i've missed something, but honestly, just look at the top of the last page of the thread you linked to in the first post. It's all there.
