Dual Core Xeon running BOINC (SETI or Rosetta)

I guess I was just wondering if anyone else out there is running BOINC on dual core xeon processors because it only picks up two processors when other distributed computing projects pick up 8. (Attempted SETI and Rosetta)

I'm doing a test burn-in on three of these and each system has two processors:
Dual Core Xeon Processor 5050,2x2MB Cache, 3.00GHz, 667MHz FSB, PE 2950

Tried OGR-25 and it runs all eight instances on their client at 80M per second.

is the problem only with boinc projects?
if so, go to the boinc preferences and set "use at most xx processors" to the amount you have. You find the boinc settingsin nearly every project in your "your account".

Philippart is probably right, because by default BOINC is set to use at most two processors in each computer.
As you probably know you can change these setting e.g. in seti under the heading "General preferences".

You can make the change from home. The setting is on any given projects page.

Bonic Project -> Your Account -> General Preferences -> Edit Preferences

The next time the client contacts the project, the changes will go in effect.

I have just one PC running Boinc right now - it's a dual-core Xeon with HT - it detects as 4 processors.

I went ahead and adjusted the client already, but I stopped the client on the server before I left work. Not to fear, its still running a DNet client, just not the one of choice.

Yip, I see the same here too. With Two (2) Dual core processors, then I see eight!

Not bad for $3800.00; Two Dual Core 3.0Ghz processors, 4gig ram, 6x 146G 15k SAS hardrives and 3yr NBD warranty.

Bringing up three of these this week and I'd like to see what all three of them can do while hammering away at Rosetta or SETI for a while. 8x3=24 should have a impact in the stats for a bit, ya think?

Seems to be working!

Changed the settings over the weekend and fired up the client. It did take some time for the client to adjust (downloaded only 6 wu first and the other two processors were idle) but after a bit, all 8 were hammering along.
Tomorrow I'll change the other server and get two online.

The only thing that didnt' happen was Rosetta. It never went beyond 2 CPU's even though I had 8 configured in my settings and forced a connection.

Actually resumed Rosetta this morning..(Suspended SETI for a bit on this server anyway) 8 processes finally were downloaded and running. See what happens in the next 24 hours.

Good thing is I'll have them in the server room for about two months before they're needed. Whoohoo!! Free CPU power!
