Well I guess you're out of luck. You can try reinstalling Windows XP maybe. Do you have SP2? You can try installing SP2 and maybe if you're lucky it'll work again..I dunno.

You already have the ACPI Multiproc thing. That's what you specified in the /HAL switch under boot.ini. It doesn't like the driver when you force it so that's why it's not showing up normally..it knows it's not gonna work. Premonition. 😉

You'll have to wait for the new BIOS if all else fails. It's weird it worked before.
 
I remember when I was installing windows that it did not recognize what type of computer i had.. options were, "other" and "Standard PC blah i386"... now I know what the source of my problem is.. now if i can just get a proper driver, and select the "other" option, to install from a floppy.. i might be in business.. know where i can find the right driver?
 
Well, I suppose you can try this.

First put in a blank formatted floppy.

Then go to the i386 in command line just like you did with the last thing and this time do:

expand hal.in_ A:\hal.inf
expand halmacpi.dl_ A:\halmacpi.dll
expand ntkrnlmp.ex_ A:\ntkrnlmp.exe
expand ntkrnlpa.ex_ A:\ntkrnlpa.exe
expand ntkrpamp.ex_ A:\ntkrpamp.exe
expand ntoskrnl.ex_ A:\ntoskrnl.exe

Then specify the floppy and see if it finds anything.
 
When I press F5 to force a type of HAL in windows installation, it only allows me to select "other" and "Standard PC with C-Step i486"

how do I change this?
 
OK, read my post above about how to put the drivers on to the floppy disk.

Edit: Crap, I just realized all that won't fit on the floppy. I don't know what you can do now. Try flashing to the old BIOS again I guess.
 
it is definitely related to this installation problem with windows.. and not my BIOS, but thanks a lot for the help

I upgraded from a 3200+ winchester without reformatting.. i bet thats why it worked

i wonder if this 1017 BIOS is definitely going to fix it.. i might need to figure out how to get my ACPI option not greyed out in BIOS options

39 post thread between the two of you and the arrow keys fixed it? Just the kinda thing that makes you wanna pull your hair out!

lol yes, it was arrow keys.. i was forced to install windows overtop of windows.. dual cores are finally recognized with 1016 bios.. i guess 1017 isn't need after all!!! and i didnt lose all my program files from the previous install.. thanks a lot for the help xtknight
