Dual-core or single?

it will defintely improve your performance in the long run not to sure about at the mo, as you already have single core 3.2, the nominal benefits that you will receive is the ability to multi task, but in games at the mo there will be little to no affect ...

plus, u would need to upgrade your MOBO as well, unless you bought a 945X, 955X chipset...🙁

and heat problems ????. Stay with what you got for now unless you want to go X2 when multi-threaded apps are out, or your multitasking on your 3.2 isn;t good enough. the 820D is a joke, and the 840 gets creamed my the 4400 even, and the new motherboard you would need either way.

At this moment in time I wouldnt go with a dually. Not because the peformance is bad, not because of the price, but because of the heat. The heat load these things put out is just incredible.

Presler will hopefully be the first tolerable dual core by Intel.

I was under the impression that I would only need to update my BIOS. Everything else should fit.
AMD has both dual-core and single-core CPUs for socket 939, but Intel's current dual core requires a new socket.

New chipset (hence new motherboard), yes; but new socket, no. Dual core P4s are on LGA775 just like the rest of the recent P4s.

yeah, i wouldnt do it. especially since there are 2 prescott cores in there. that would get soooo hot! man, think about on of those things on a hot summer day. geez. wait for the DC Dothan to come out if you want intel, otherwise go X2, or dont upgrade.
