As long as they're cheap, I guess. I'm waiting for my latest Celeron toy to show up on UPS. Celeron 420, cost $31 and I'm gonna clock it high just for fun!

Your search must be broken Larry: Budget Dual Core Celeron's :D

A great deal of the Core 2s success comes from the use of copious amounts of level 2 cache. Without that, I imagine it will simply.... suck.. We already have seen the performance hit the E4xxx series takes to the E6xxx series in AnAndTech's look at Half-Life 2 Episode 2. With Athlon X2s at rock bottom prices, I doubt there would be much of a niche for these outside the OEM market; where people are not nearly as educated in such matters.

However, those who already have LGA775 boards and are looking for a cheap CPU, these will likely fit quite well. Only board I have is an AM2 board for our file server. The rest are P4, PIII, Athlon, and Athlon XP boards.

We have ample evidence that this is simply not true. Each of the Core product families have less cache as you step down, E6xxx, E4xxx, E2xxx and each performs very well in most applications. The new E1xxx family should likewise.

Having said that, their are applications where the "copious amounts of level 2 cache" are very beneficial and for those unique application this new dual core Celerons would be a poor choice.

To me a bigger issue is, does it make sense to put a $35 CPU on a $100 MB, not to me. Why a $100 MB? Because only at that price point do you find the flexibility to OC all of the Exxxx CPU's. I've yet to see a $50 uATX MB that will OC well.

Sure. Why not??

The mobo should cost around $100. Plus, you can get one under $100.
You do know more than just the cpu plugs into the mobo??

Might have to grab one just to OC to the edge .
