Dual Core 4400+ is a good deal!

2.2Ghz 1mb lvl2 two cores = $550

Can anything touch this? Nope

Two opteron 248's = $900 nevermind cost of expensive mobo and ECC ram and it's slower.

Two same speed 3500's with less cache is same price, nevermind you can't dual them.

The 4000+, single core, is the same price, operating at only 200Mhz more!

Intels 840 which will be slower is basically the same price!

I don't see why people are complaining at all. If you can OC this 4400+ to 3ghz then it becomes real attractive. I think I'll try it on water ASAP even at that so-called high price.😀 I mean you're basically getting two FX's for $550

My thoughts too. I mean it is a good bit of money, but for what you're getting, I don't think it's that bad.
Side note, will oc'ing a dual core be the same as single core, or will there be settings for each core?

I agree with Zebo, The Athlon64 X2 priceing isn't too bad for what you get. I'll pay the 550 with dual 2.2GHz. But the bad thing for me is that i have to buy a new mobo (i am a 754 yunkie lol)

Anybody know if the Socket 939 AGP motherboard will support this beast? I really hope so, i don't want to get a new video card too.

And seeing how the next ATI card will be AGP too no reason to goto PCI-E just yet.

Provided that the performance is similar to that of the Dual Core Opterons, the price is actually Too Good.

Add Overclocking Capability, and Non Registered RAM running @ 2-2-2 (1T) to the mix, and it will De-Value many other processors.

i agree and i really don't mind spending extra money on a company that is really trying to provide good technology.

The performance will be 10-15% better than a 175 due the ram improvments you mentioned at the end of your post, in addtion to not using ECC as the 175 was forced to do.

massive pwnage. There would really be almost no reason to OC, execpt for single threaded apps, and I guess...because you can!

No reason!!! Because it's there duh. Seriously I'll be happy with 2.8. I have water cooling so should'nt hard, that's only 600 Mhz.

I've been saying it man, I've been saying it....

I think I'll be selling my Dual Opteron setup and buying a X2+SLI setup myself

DP what gets me is people are creamin all over themselves about the 3700 (single core san deigo 2.2) for a whopping $370 as a cheap FX alternative with the right touch, while complaining about these 4400+s which really are a even better deal, only 50% more for that second core.

No one thinks it through, they just go with a knee jerk reaction AKA sticker shock. I have been calculating exactly how I am going to transition to X2 since I read Anand's review 😀

Same here. Right now, it's looking like early next year (the majority of my horsepower goes to games, so there's really no point in upgrading to dual core until multithreaded games show up....for me at least), but hell, if the pricing gets any stronger than this, I might just have to make the jump early to say I have it.

Now when is G70 going to show up so I can make use of this SLI.... 😉

Well don't get me wrong. I'd love to see a DC 1.8 1MB L2 for about $220 since I'll make it a whatever... But that is'nt very likly with AMD at full cap already...maybe after fab36 opens. Until then I'm afraid will have to settle for better than dual opteron perfomance for half the price.🙂

Yeah. What a pity 🙂

Hey! Stop rubbing it in! 😛 I got reamed on the Opterons, I would like to cut my losses as much as possible and move back to the less expensive desktop arena.

Just thinking out loud bro. About that Abit system (wn-s2+) I almost built but the board never materialized, thank goodness.

What!! $550 a good deal from the king proponent of the $70 wonderchip??:Q <<<<poking a little fun at yah Zeeb

Seriously, I don't think anyone should be suprised by this at all. From the desktop users point of view, I don't think the overall pricing is bad, just not a phenominal bargain like we have all come to "expect", right or wrong, from AMD (hence the shot above). Also, I think that alot of folks are put out due to the snubbing of the bottom feeder market w/ monster Oc's in mind, but we all know why that is. I can't speak for others, but I was anticipating something on the order of a 40% to 60% or so upcharge on the second core. As it turns out it's a bit more than that.

I'm not a 2cpu class workstation user, but without question this seems to be a very competitive alternative, if not the only high-powered alternative to the convention dual setup. That is, if you can really use what dual core has to offer from a software standpoint.

Fit's perfectly to the old "if you want to dance, you gotta pay the band".

Yea I'm loosing all my credibility and reputation on this one Ski😛 I Better STFU... I just get excited thinking about doing some DVD encodes while fragging @120FPS.😀

Honestly I agree with everyone who doesnt mind the pricing scheme of the of new x2 chips but I would wait for the practical usage benchmarks. Thus far all I have seen has been real-world business application benches. I am a firm believer in the chips running better than the new intel dual core stuff but I want to know exactly what type of numbers are we all going to be looking at.

The other benefit to this upgrade in the Athlon 64 line is the average price drop. Once these chips officially become available in June the single core s939 chips will most likely drop if not plummet. Therefore, those people not looking to upgrade to dual core chips might want to start saving their pennies for cpus.

Yeah that is one thing I'm looking forward to is multitasking and starting multiple apps without delay.

The actual single application performance on dual core is not really that much stronger than a good single core system, but the overall system will feel much more responsive now that the threads don't have to queue up as much. When we get to 4 or eight cores, that will be pretty much elminated altogether - then we just need our RAM drives 😛

Ahh you'll be alright, Zeeb😉 He11, I've owned a 3.4EE against my better judgement. You only live once, and at $500ish these X2 babies offer quite a bit for those that can use them properly.

I'd like to see more subjective comments, rather than numbers, on the overall feel of the dual core. I love speed as much as the next guy, but I like smooth a whole lot better. That doesn't show up too well in graphs.
