Dual Channel

Slurred

Member
Sorry for being a n00b, but for mobo's that support Dual Channel does the memory have to come in a Dual Channel kit, or can I just use two pieces of ram...
the mem i'm thinking of is this. Can i just buy two of these and run them in Dual Channel? Thanks in advance

you can just use two sticks of ram. dual channel isn't a property of the ram.

i had the same misconception when i built my first rig 🙂

it's always good to have the same brand/speed of ram when you run it in dual channel, though.

The kit guarantees DC will work, but I know someone who bought two 512MB sticks 8 months apart, from different manufacturers, and they still worked in DC on in his AthlonXP system. I can't see any reason why buying two of the same stick at the same time would not work for dual-channel purposes.
