dual channel ram

How much faster is it than single channel? My motherboard says that my ram is different so it only can operate in single channel. How much performance did I lose? By performance I mean real performance, not the theoretical capabilities of duel channel.

"It depends."

Look up the Motherboard articles on AT for your chipset / CPU and see if they show single-vs-dual performance.

3-5%, I wish I can find a post once that went into details and tests, some applications went up to 10% gain in dual channel...but mostly its very minimal.

If you're running an Intel Pentium 4, P4-EE, P-D, P-EE; then it's probably something like a 40-80% difference since Intel's current CPU's are highly dependant upon memory bandwidth.

I'm using a 3200+ venice. So I didn't lose that much performance right? I will change the ram the next year but I'm just wondering if it's urgent.

If you plan on are overclocking then you may be better off not running dual-channel. Dual-channel is very timing critical.

I don't overclock at all. I think I'm going to replace the ram and get a new 2gig one next year. Will be cheap by then.
