Yeah, how do I enable Dual Channel mode on this motherboard? I have 2x 512MB kit in there. i tried both combinations with the 3 ports in there. Didn't see any setting in the BIOS. I know I'm going to feel like a tool when someone tells me.

To be honest, I don't think that motherboard supports dual channel. Think about it, with three slots if they were all used, how would it use dual channel?

it has to. when i power it on, it says it's running in single channel mode. oh, and the way the slots are. there are two directly next to each other, the third is kinda off to the right of the 2 by itself. so something is up. i know it supports the shat, i just dunno how. :(

The A7N8X-X uses the nForce2 400 chipset, which is inherently single-channel. The nF2 Ultra 400 chipset is the dual-channel variant, and is found on the A7N8X "standard," A7N8X Deluxe, and A7N8X-E Deluxe.

If it were any of those last three, it could run dual-channel with either two or three modules installed. The performance boost of dual-channel isn't very significant in most situations, however, so you're only losing maybe 5% of your potential performance. Don't sweat it, just OC the system 5% :D
