Dual channel memory test

I believe my computer is not running it's memory in Dual Channel, but I am not sure. I am getting very slow response, computer really bogs down when more than one thing is happening at a time, and loading ****** takes forever, regardless of the application. Is there a program I can run that will confirm my suspicions or do I have to buy new memory and hope that fixes the problem? Also, is there any way to test the memory itself to see if the motherboard is the problem?

Motherboard is a Gigabyte 865-XVMK IIRC, i'll look again later.

Download CPUz, look at the memory tab. Under channels it will say dual for dual channel, or single for single channel.

You have the symptoms of spyware, viruses, trojans, etc.

Your board should show in the early BIOS screens that it is running in dual channel mode. You can run an app like memtest that will show this too. I can guarantee with certainty that this is not a single channel / dual channel problem.

While I appreciate the response, I find it hard to believe that spyware is the problem after a fresh install. The post was made from a different computer, the computer in question has yet to even reach the internet . Checkin out both programs, thanks for the help.

Yea, memory is in the right slots. I've been buildin computers for almost 12 years, first time i've ever had issues like this that haven't been tracked down elsewhere.

By stange coincidence I looked this morning at a website

Check their brief FAQ section. It talks about VERY slow performance on a new install of Win XP SP2 on a dual-processor machine. The problem, it says, is that the intall by default turns on auto updating and auto virus scanning which tend to take over part of the machine and slow it down. However, I think those need internet acces and if your machine isn't hooked up there, yet, that may not be the problem.

I was also wondering whether or not my new PC-5300 is running in Dual Channel mode. I had already downloaded CPU-Z, and it says Dual, but next to frequency it says 333. Shouldn't it read 667 for PC-5300?
