I am building a new system and got an asus mobo with dual channel ddr. Do I have to install the memory in pairs or can i just install them one at a time.

thanks

You can use one stick of memory - at least for AMD systems - but it will not run in dual channel unless you have 2 sticks. And they have to be in the proper slots, as well.

How do you tell which slots?

Am looking over my new DFI Infinity board and the manual does not state which slots to put my ram in for dual channel.

Very skimpy manual and cant find any info on their site.

Any advice?

Usually there is offset socket, so you'd use that one, and the one closest to it But just in case your mobo is different, you can put in the 2 sticks, start the machine, and then run CPUz. It's memory tab will tell you if you are running in dual channel or not.

I just set up my Asus A7N8X-E Deluxe last night, and the manual said for dual channel to use the offset slot and then the other outside slot. Of course it also said there were four slots when there are only 3 so who knows.
