Is it cool if I partition my raptor to run both xp and vista and then use another drive for storage? That way they both have access to the same files. I'm a little skeptical because after using both I'm getting some disc errors. I'm working around them now, but I'm just curious if this setup can work.

You can dual boot from the same HD as long as you partition it right.

What I'm asking is... is it ok for them to share a third partition for storage?

Partition #1: XP
Partition #2: Vista
Partition #3: Storage

Should be just fine if your simply storing files on it. I have 2 Linuxes, an XP, and a 2000 all sharing a central storage of video files and they all work fine. Just make sure you dont install programs on the storage drive.

I have Vista on partition 1 and XP on 2. I have programs installed on partition 3. I have all my data stored on partition 3 also.
Vista and XP can both access the third partition and access the data and programs on it.

as others have said you shouldn't have any issues using a single storage drive for both xp and vista, though if you have vista move your documents/downloads ... to that drive then you might run into some naming convention issues between vista and xp, (ie in vista its documents instead of my documents) and if you are looking for specific folders in both (and using the os's features to manage them) it could be an issue, if you are doing everything yourself and not worrying about vista/xp's default folders then it should be fine.

Sorry, misunderstood the original question ... you should have no trouble using one central location as data storage for both OS's, just be careful about certain app's that keep their own record of where files are stored because if you move stuff around in one OS, the app in the other might not be able to find it.
