dual booting xp and vista

pontifex

Lifer
I have xp and vista on 2 separate partitions. it wants to boot to vista by default.
how do i make it default to xp instead of vista?

I used a program called EasyBCD to do it. Vista came pre-installed. I then installed XP on another partition. Then used EasyBCD to create the boot menu and boot order.

I haven't used it in vista and I'm not using vista now but it should have it the system setting start up options or the msconfig ? I've always use EasyBCD simply because I never have had XP installed first, but in your situation, you shouldn't need another program just to change the default booting OS.

Right Click "Computer", "Properties", choose "Advanced System Settings".

In the "System Properties" dialog box, under Advanced tab, in the box "Startup and Recovery" click on "Settings".

Choose your "Default Operating System".

EasyBCD is just a program allowing you to do all that in one simple step, and even change the startup descriptions, i.e. "Previous verson of Windows" to "Windows XP" etc.
