Dual booting question: How do i get my apps to run in win2k without having two copies of the software?

I run winme and now also win2k, but i havent dual booted before so can u help me with this easy problem?

First, the programs would have to support Win2k. Then what you must do is create shortcuts, or manually input all the information (pointing to the program already installed) in your Start>Programs>, and list the programs you want to be available in Win2k.


Or the easer way would be to do a clean install of WinME and Win2k, installing program you want for WinME on ME, and installing programs you would want for Win2k only on Win2k.

Actually it may be shorter to do it the other way, but you may run into some problems.

just install it to the same dir from both os's.... worked for me...

Erm, actually you don´t!

Let´s say for example you install Office in WinME and want to use it also in W2K. It just doesn´t suffice copying shortcuts over to the W2K desktop. There are hundreds(thousands) of registry entries which have to be in the W2K registry for Office to function. This is the case with many applications. To be safe, put ME and W2K on seperate partitions/hdd's and just have two copies. It will make your life easier

I keep my Win98SE and WIn2000 Programs in DIFFERENT Drive/Directories as I want to make them independent of each other. Or else you could install the program TWICE on both the OS on the SAME directory if you have the space.
