I have checked the FAQ's and did a search and have yet to find an answer. I have 3 HDD in my system

1 x 46gb
2x 30gb

The 2 30gbs are in RAID 0 and my partitions are as follows

HDD 1 has 3 partitons,
1 is 20gb, NTFS, Windows XP, this is C:\
2 is 22gb, Fat32, User Data and some Programs E:\
3 is 4gb, NTFS, F:\

HDD 2 and 3 are Striped as 60gb, NTFS, D:\

What i want to do it leave XP on C:\ and load 98SE on E:\

as of yet I have not seen a way to do this, any help is greatly appreciated.

When I installed mine, I just let 98 install on C: cause I heard it doesn't like to be installed in a different dir. Then I let XP default to D: which is the second partition in my 30GB maxtor....(15GBfor C: 15GB for D:) Then I just left the RAID drive as storage. All my drives are FAT 32. If your in 98 and fat32, I dont' think you will be able to read the NTFS parts of your drives. Also not installing either on your raid keeps it from slowing down, as redundancy with an operating system is supposed to slow down your RAID drive, or something like that. Works great for me, even though I use 98 very little, as it's more or less a back up if something goes wrong with XP.

Hope that helps some...

Yep. Almost all of Windows 98 can be on any partition, but the boot files IO.SYS, MSDOS.SYS have to be be on C:(or a floppy) and it has to be on a partition the loaders recognize internally, which is FAT and FAT32.

You can boot from a floppy if that is acceptable and it can boot into W98. The trick is to get W98 on E:. Will it install that way? I don't know. You will need the right letter designations for the Window location in the MSDOS.SYS on the floppy, but that's not hard.

You can create a small FAT C: partition with Partition Magic, but that will mess up the designation letters of your XP installed programs, and XP will have to be repaired in order to boot. I believe Partition Magic will convert NTFS to FAT32.

Take a look at XOSL (www.xosl.org, I think) or other boot loaders (System Commander and BootMagic come to mind). These tools may be able to temporarily hide partitions, allowing Win95/98/ME to work even if it isn't on the true C: volume.

-SUO, has never used any of the above products :)
