Dual boot win98/win98??

I recently installed win2K in my system to have a 98/2k dual boot. I noticed that the boot loader is just an .INI file that is read by the OS as first thing, and then it chooses OS. In the first stages of win2k installation, the choices were 98=C:\ and 2K=C:\winnt. After it finished the choice for 2K was refering to a partition/logical drive.

I just got curious..... If I copy an image of a 98 installation to another HD D:\, then I install a fresh win 98 in c:\, and finally I add the boot.ini file (win98-1=c:\, win98-2=d:\)

Do you think that this can make a dual boot setup for win98/win98....

Thanks

It's not that simple. Simply creating a boot.ini file would not allow you to dual boot (not even 98/win2k). To dual boot two separate win98 os, it would be best to get a third party software such as bootmagic by powerquest or the one by system commander. Other than using a third party software, I don't think it's possible to dual boot two separate win98 os.

Look in the [Paths] section of msdos.sys, which is on your system drive, presumably C:. It points to the location of the win98 install you want to start. Every time you wanted to change to another win98 install, you'd have to edit the file. So, it can be done, but it would be cumbersome. Easier, as was pointed out, to use a third-party boot manager. However, what's the point of a second win98 - another w2k install could be selected from the boot.ini menu, and it's more stable than win98.
