Hi
Ok I hav this computer for a while.Recently I added a hard drive( c:\) and installed Windows 98 SE.My older hdd Has MSDOS on it (d:\). Now I want to be ablew to dual boot to MSDOS. My problem is that in bootmenu there is no 7 nth option for boot to previous Operating system. How can I put that on the bootmenu.I already tried editing MSDOS.sys and adding BOOTMENU=1 and BOOTMULTI=1 But still there is no 7nth option.
Thanks for your help

What is there in DOS (6.22?) that you need? Perhaps a 98SE Command Prompt can do the same for you?

Enlighten us! :D

is there really nothing else that works for you ? could you just have a boot floppy handy in the drive that would have the choices ?
i'd bet someone around here could figure it out.

Asraa,

I run two old DOS apps on my XP Pro computer in a DOS window. Both programs run great.

Especially with Win98 you should not be having any problems running old DOS APPS in a DOS window.

To install your DOS program correctly use Win98's START/RUN command. In RUN click the BROWSE button and find your DOS programs install program and let it install. From then on Windows knows where your DOS program is installed. Also for my DOS program I right click and drag its EXE file to my desktop and tell it to create a shortcut to my DOS program. Double click on its icon and it should automatically open its own DOS window and load.

You should not have an autoexec.bat or config.sys file on your hard drive. They are not needed.

I don't think you can *naturally* dual boot Win9x/ME and DOS, as the former still run on top of some incarnation of DOS. Go grab XOSL (www.xosl.org, I think) and do your thing.

Orange*,

Dual booting to DOS is a waste of time as most if not all old DOS programs released after 1988 will run satisfactorily in a Win98 or ME DOS window. I know some who are running a 1985 DOS wordprocessor with no problems in a DOS window.

Even with XP Pro I am successfully running a 1992 released DOS word processor in a DOS window. :)

XOSL is another waste of time and is not needed.

Looks fine on my DOS-box.

I must agree with the majority here, why dual boot Windows and MSDOS? Unless you need a DOS with better memory management, just use a command prompt. If MSDOS isn't up to scratch, go get DRDOS or PTSDOS - both are free and both outperform MSDOS (or at least they have for me, which is why I still use DOS). Now, if only I could get a wireless PC card with good DOS drivers, I could surf the net while taking a dump with my little Toshiba Libretto 70! (Wife notices when I run a CAT5 cable to the crapper!)
