Dual Boot Question

Im trying to help a guy out at work. Basically he wants to use his own personal laptop at work, but work wont allow it for fear that he could carry a virus in etc. Either way, what he wants to do is to create two partitions for two seperate copies of win2k to run on. Basically so he can have it boot config one and not see the second boot drive...or boot config two and not see the first. Anyone have any experience with this? Any other suggestions that you could offer. Thanks.

You can have two separate copies of Win2K on two separate partitions, with no problems. You cannot really make one partition hidden from the other OS though. I guess you could use TweakUI to hide the particular partition, but it is still accessable if you are determined enough, and certainly not much defence against viruses.

yeah, I understand its not much help against viruses. So how do i create this setup? Can I use the win2k CD and create the first partition as something like half the drive size...complete the install, then repeat with the other half of the drive with another copy of win2k. When I get the bootup manager will it ask which copy I would like to boot from? Thanks

Yes, you have the correct procedure.

Win2K's boot menu is smart enough to recognise that there are two instances of Windows 2000 and allow you to select which one you want to boot from.

You may wish to edit boot.ini to give a more clear indication of which particular installation of Windows 2000 you are booting to.
