Dual Boot Problem Windows XP and 98

:| I Have just re-formatted my primary hard drive - a Maxtor 40Gb and set up 2 partitions to allow for both the XP and Windows 98 partitions. I have ensured that both partitions are FAT32 for now. I installed Win98 first, as recommended by Microsoft, and then XP. I have managed to get a boot option screen, but when I select the Windows 98 option, the Windows logo comes up, but does nothing after that. I have tried rebooting in Safe mode but it makes no difference. Windows XP starts up fine from the dual boot menu.

I'm sure there is a problem with one of the system files but I can't work it out!

My Motherboard is an ABIT BH6 v1.01 flashed to SS.

Nb: I need the Windows 98 system as some of my older games will not run on XP, despite the inbuilt emulator.

Thanks

that sounds odd... it looks like you are doing everything correctly..

in the installation of the 2 different os's, did you select the proper drive to install the os on?? perhaps you might have selected the wrong one..

also, you might want to use fdisk to recreate your partitions, then try installing them again.. but be sure to back up your important files as you will lose it after you use fdisk to create your partitions.

 I couldn't remember if the Windows 98 installation was completely successful so to be on the safe side I removed my partitions with Fdisk and then reformated my primary and secondary drives. I then tried a fresh installation of Windows 98 onto the c drive. Same result though. Windows is stuck at the "Getting ready to run windows for the first time" stage! Nb: I have not tried installing XP yet. Ps I am not worried about losing any important data as this is a spare PC.
