I just need to run this by someone its late and my brain is mostly fried.

I have a laptop that has winxp pro on it and because I share it with a friend and we both have work domains that have different demands I was thinkin just tossing a copy on win2k on it as a dual boot. So that being said. I have 1 40gb drive. If I convert that to a dynamic disk and setup like a 5-10gb partition and boot off the win2k cd and throw it on that partition I should be cool right.

ok since no one seems to know or doesnt want to take the time to answer. I ave an easier question.

If I set up a dynamic disk which has XP pro on it.. Partition it into 2 volumes can I instal another OS on the 2nd volume.

Well according to Here you can only install 1 operating system per dynamic disk, ie 1 dynamic disk 1 os. Done not really mention anything about if they are 2 volumes. Also, i could be wrong but I dont believe you can install Win XP Pro or Win 2k Pro on a dynamic volume.

But if you keep it as a basic disk with 2 partition you can dual boot fine with out any problem

If you install Win2k after installing WinXP, you will probably have to do a repair install
of Windows XP afterward to repair the NT boot files that will be replaced when Win2k
goes thru setup.

actually, im pretty sure that since dynamic disk is software OS, when you boot from w2k cd, it won't be able to read the volumes. its only able to see partitions.

so i guess if you have an extra HD, make that basic disk, then after OS install, upgrade to dynamic. or just start over, have HD with 2 partitions, set up w2k, then xp. then convert your HD to volumes.

This is correct, as you can probably guess dual-booting with dynamic disks is somewhat problematic since the OS that didnt create the dynamic disk will be unable to boot from it. Your best bet is going to be to stick to a basic disk for the drive that the OSes go on to (if you have a second drive and want it to be dynamic that should be okay).

Just out of curiousity why are you looking to use dynamic disks on your laptop? Generally there are not going to be much advantages on a laptop, dynamic disks become usefull on systems that have multiple hard disks.
