Dual 120 Rig to cool 9650 and NB

Ok,

So I'm totally new to this...looking for some inputs. The system consists of a EP-45-UD3R Board, Q9650, and an EVGA 285SSC, with a possible upgrade to a 295 in the next weeks. I need this for 24/7/365 work, but I also fold and play games. Quiet over performance is my concern. This all needs to go into my Lian LI PC-7FW. I'm going to remove the hard drive cage and relocate storage into the front 5 1/4 bays for additional room. This will leave some room in the bottom front of the case, perfect for a dual RAD blowing out (at least in my mind).

Install will consist of the single RAD at rear exhaust for cpu only. The dual RAD will be bottom mounted in front, and blowing out.

Swiftech MCP655 - not sure If I need this much, but I really want to be silent and have good head pressure.
Swiftech MCR120-QP - Vertical mount for cpu only.
Swiftech MCR220-QP - It was one of the few that allows for vertical barbs.
Swiftech GTZ - Have not seen any bad information on this unit.
Swiftech Micro Res - Limited space in my case.
Swiftech GTX200 - Full kit for my 285 SSC. (optional, but if I get my 295, would like additional capability)

So the questions are:
1. Can this be done while keeping it efficient & Quiet?
2. Is there a better solution?
3. Can someone help me lay it out?
4. Smack me if/where I've gone off the deep end.

You could substitute a fan blowing onto the NB. Also, you're going to need more than a 120 rad for a quad. ***Smacks*** heheh jk - You will also need 1/2 ID tubing. Masterkleer is great! I use it for my Q9650 setup. They sell a 7/16 ID and 5/8 OD tubing that works great on 1/2 ID barbs. It's almost impossible to pull off. I used FatBoys for my barbs. There are other good ones too someone may suggest. Aigo is the authority in this dept really. But, keep your metal materials the same.

Let us know how it goes. I'd like to see progress pics also, not to grade you but to see how you are doing it. Thanks,

Good Luck!

Thanks for the input...I have learned this already:

1. don't mix metal...
2. FatBoys are the best Barbs...
3. Everyone likes Masterkleer...

Now I'm thinking about a dual - dual 120 configuration...measuring the case now...plan to buy tomorrow. Pics of the progress will come.

Excellent! We will be having almost the same setup as I just ordered a UD3R board last night. I can't wait to see how high I can run the fsb and then know my cpu limitations. I'm hoping to hit 4.5Ghz on my Q9650

Just to let you know, they changed the PCB design from the GTX260/280 -> 55nm GTX 260/285 so the Swiftech parts for the GTX200 series don't work (I know from personal experience. I have the Swiftech GTX200 RAM/PWM sink and had to cut off the PWM and part of the RAM sink using a dremel and using copper Enzotech heatsinks instead.

1. On Idle yes, not on Load.

2. You need Larger Thicker Rads more optimized for greater heat dispersion at lower fan speeds.

3. what case this going in? At first i might have to say no seeing how your lmited to a total rad space of 120x3.

4. *SMACK POP WACK!* your thinkn water is yoshi that can gobble an almost unlimited supply of heat.

Can you try to stack 2 rads? Swiftech is coming out with a new stackable one, if your uber tight on space.

Ouch...that left a mark. After measuring the case and all possible angles, even a dual up front would be more work then what it would be worth...IMO. I'm going to start fresh, Pass this down, sell my other system and go for a uber silent quad that will suit my needs.

I'm going to order the case and the hardware first...which will allow for time to make a judgement call on another Q9650 or jumping to i7. I expect the basic hardware to run $300 or so to get me going.

Thanks again for all the assistance.
