DSR and "native resolution"

I've been playing around with DSR on my PC a bit and mostly I like it quite a bit but ran into a bit of a snag when trying to get it going in certain games. Most specifically I'm talking about heroes of the storm but I'm sure this would come up in some other games so I'm wondering if there is a solution to this problem.

The problem I'm running into deals with the fact that my screen is 21:9 and HOTS does not support that ratio. This isn't a problem normally, but the way DSR works is that is gives you some higher resolutions based on your monitors native resolution. When I have DSR enabled, all of the higher resolutions are 21:9. This isn't a problem in some games, for example in Witcher 2 you can set a 21:9 resolution and it just adds black bars to the side for you. In heroes of the storm though, it will not show 21:9 resolutions at all, so I can't enable DSR in game.

I was thinking of ways to fix this, if there is a way to add 16:9 resolutions to DSR that would work, I'm not sure if that's possible since the DSR resolutions seem automatic based on your native resolution. This leads me to think you would have to fake the "native resolution". My screen is 2560x1080 so if I could someone get my system to think 1920x1080 is the native resolution I think the DSR resolutions would all end up being 16:9.

I didn't have much luck finding ways to do this so I was wondering if anyone on here knew how. I was able to get a similar solution by using custom resolutions, but that limits the refresh rate of my screen and I think it uses a different method for downsampling than DSR.

Wait, never mind that suggestion didn't work. Yeah, it seems hard coded to native resolution.

Maybe try GeDoSaTo.

Try GeDoSaTo. http://blog.metaclassofnil.com/?page_id=582

It lets you use any resolution you want, and you can choose the filter used for downsampling.

Can you not fool it by using DSR on the desktop resolution instead? Even if you can't do true fullscreen in HotS, you should be able to do a windowed 16:9 resolution (or close) with a DSR'd desktop.

Yeah I actually have a 980 ti right now just haven't updated my sig, I'll try gedesato out and see how it works. Right now I've been using a custom resolution as a work around for heroes of the storm, I can do double the normal resolution at 120Hz and it looks pretty good in game, but I'll see how this works.

Hmm, I'm not sure exactly what you mean, even if I DSR my desktop the windowed version of the game will still render at the resolution it's set to right?

Yes, the game should render at the resolution it's set to. Which is why you DSR the desktop to create a larger starting resolution, and then choose the larger resolution you want to play at, in game.
