Recently I have moved and we only have 1 cable internet provider, mediacomm. They suck balls basically and the connection is slow, intermitent and especially during peak hrs about all i can do is surf. Latecny in games sucks, and ping/tracert to any game server or webserver will bring back times of 220+ms.

They keep blowing me off saying there is nothing wrong, and its outside there network.... well this is bs, i have been with insight, cox, and roadrunner never had problems.

DSL is offering 6 down on there best line, i thought a phone line could only handle like 1.5 down? will i see 6 down really through dsl? will my connection be better etc? any reccomendations

Typical available DSL is 3Mb/sec. I am few hundres feet from the DSlam and I get 500 KB/sec. downloads.

Howvever, any specific recommendation would not do you any good if it were not coming from some one in your geographical area, and services that are available to you.

The issue is Not DSL vs. Cable. Or and Bandwidth.

I have few installations of Cable and DSL in few locations. In not find any technological relation between the bandwidth and the pings, which I can be identified. I do not play online game but my grandson is a WOW level 60, so I use him as a "Bench".;)

The only thing to do is to ask people in your neighborhood how their service works, and identify what seems to be the best performance in you neck of the wood.

In addition, your own cabling system in your place plays a major factor as well. Every one around you can have terrific DSL service, but if your phone line are ?Bad? your DSL would be Bad too (same with Cable).

wow thanks jack.

My follow up questions would then be

1. I just got back from iraq, and during that time my wife and kids moved. So i know she doesnt know whats going on, but i guess the cables were old/bad in the house and the guy tested them saying we couldnt get internet through a couple or whatever blah blah. But he kept saying the house needs new cable ran through it.... so maybe we should do that ?

2. surfing the net and such doesnt really suffer its more my ping in games. Plus being new in the nieghborhood i dont really know people. Let alone what service, and if they play online games lol. but maybe ill just start asking around
