DSL works but 56k doesnt!

Ok, here is my problem. I have a HP Pavilion zd7000 laptop. Everytime I dial up on my 56k modem it connects to the internet, verifies the username and password and actually connects fine. The problem is when I try to open Internet Explorer it either sits there looking up an IP address forever or tells me that it cant find the server. When I hook up to a DSL line it works fine. So I dont know what the deal is.

I can use the dial up fine on my other computer so I dont think its the ISP. Does anyone have any ideas on this?

Try to initiate the DialUp connection by double clicking on the DialUp Icon for the connection.

Once the connection is established open IE it will pick up the DialUp connection.

I still have the same problem. It says it connects to the internet but I realized that I cant use any online services whatsoever. So it says that it has connected at 50.6Kbps but nothing works online.
