DSL + VPN trouble

One of our users at my office sometimes works from home using a DSL connection and a VPN connection to our office network. The problem he's having is that most calls on his phone line - both incomming and out going - disconnect the VPN connection. It doesn't disconnect him from the internet (although most or all of the time it will freeze the connection for 20 seconds or so, then resume). He said it has gotten worse since we upgraded him from Win2k to WinXP. He has filters on his lines.

Does anyone know how to fix this?

Thanks!

I'm only playing messenger, please don't shoot me. ;D

Sounds like a very bad case of telco screwup. There's probably something going on at the CO, where the ringing is increasing line voltage and noise enough to disrupt ADSL, but -not- cause loss of sync. I've seen it before, but I have yet to get a straight answer from ANYONE as to what exactly causes it and what exactly the fix is. Most telcos will refuse to do any troubleshooting or diag beyond 'do you get sync, do you keep sync? Good, go away.' unless you make a real racket. I'd have him start calling and complaining about this, until the telco does something, or he starts filing complaints with the PUC and AG's office about the telco's shoddy service. FYI - they're not required to provide 'excellent' xDSL service. If you have dialtone, it's good enough, so they WILL try to brush it off and they WILL ignore it. You really have to ride them to get them to do ANYTHING. Good luck!
