DSL tweeking?

I remember reading in some magazine (I think it was Computer Gaming World) about tweeking the DSL connection to get even more speed out of it and now I can't find the article anywhere. So, could someone please tell what I could do to improve the performance of my DSL service, or point me in the direction of a web site with this info?
