Running Windows 2000 right now. Downloaded the Speedguide.net registry file for merging to tweak my TCP/IP settings.. Really didn't do any in depth tweaking after that. I was quite suprised by my results.

download 2176 kbps

upload 217 kbps

Better than I thought it was going to be for Adelphia cable access...

Are there any other settings that I could have overlooked just by merging the registry tweak? Anything else hidden, that isn't known to the average user? Thanks!

Some times they forget, some times it takes time before they implement the ?speed? setting for a connection.

Any way I would not count too much on the online speed tests. Log to a fast site (Microsoft .com IBM.com ) and download 10MB file look at the down load stable speed the rule of thumb is x10 if you get a download speed of 200KB/sec your download connection is about. 2Mb/sec.

To optimize your connection:

Download DrTCP: <a target=new class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="http://www.dslre
ports.com/front/DRTCP019.exe">http://www.dslreports.com/front/DRTCP019.exe</a>

Run the proggie, it will show the current settings of TCP/IP parameters. Write them down.

You can change any variable that you want, click Apply, and reboot the computer, if no good; you can always change to your original values.

Start with:

MaxMTU - 1492 for DSL

Tcp Receive - 255552

Window Scaling - Yes

Time Stamping - No

Selective Acks - Yes

Path MTU Discovery - Yes.

Black Hole - NO

Max Duplicate - 2

TTL - 64

YMMV.

Ok.. this DrTCP thing has me screwed. I used it and now my network is having problems. My network is a microsoft wireless router connected to a wireless laptop and also a wired desktop. I cannot access the internet through it now. If I pull the ethernet out and plug straight into my ethernet of main computer I can connect. (Which is how I am on now) My outlook also appears to be screwed. I cant connect to get my e-mail. When I reload the software that came with the router it gets to the point of checking my interenet connection and says it cant find one. It then says connect to browser and click retry. I do to no avail. But I am stuck as I am no networking guy. I know this is vague but please anyone who can offer advice on what my problem might be. Thanks
