DSL speed question

This may be a stupid question 😛 as I know very little about DSL architecture, but apparently I am too far away from the DSLAM to get more than 768 down/128 up (talked to their tech support about this and this is what they seem to think the problem is), even though the account I have with Verizon is the $29.95 one with 1.5 down/384 up max. My question is then this - if that is all I can get, should I then switch to the $14.99 plan which is 768/128 max? Save a few bucks monthly, since I can't get their theoretical max anyway. TIA.

EDIT: Or will my current speed decrease even further when I change to the lower plan? 🙁

Definitely switch to the lower priced plan. If you're maxing out at 768 that's all you're gonna get no matter which plan you're on. Why pay more for what you don't get?

First give their tier 2 tech support a call and ask them to try to raise your speed anyway. It may take some convincing but you may be able to handle higher speeds then they tell you. If it is unstable then you can always go lower.

And if that really is your max then you should switch to the slower plan, you would still get the same 768/128.
