Does anybody know of a site that will test the speed of my DSL connection? When the tech from Pacific Bell hooked me up he showed me something on MSN I think. I would just like a second opnion.

Thanks in advance

Download anything from the following websites:

CS maps from Quad T3s in Illinois
Tier-1 FTP that hosts ZoneAlarm's downloads
Netscape - 'nuff said
SimTel

... and there's many more. Basically, find a really phat pipe off the 'net and see what you download at. That's your bandwidth. Most of the "speed tests" usually have too much traffic to accuratly determine your bandwidth. The closer the source, the better. DSLreports.com is usually a pretty good site to test at, but it gets lots of traffic..

ftp.ind.net is really good (that I linked above). You have to browse through a lot of directories to find a good ISO to download so here's a link: RedHat 7.1 ISO (641MB).

Geek,

If dslreports gets a lot of traffic then my tested speed must be pretty good. What do you think? What type of connection are you runnimg?

I run 1.5M / 512K ADSL and they judged my line at about 1.25M. Not that bad. But their site is all the way in CA, or different if you chose another location. They have thousands of broadband users sucking off their sites, which is why I don't really recommend them. Try that ISO like (above) and tell me what you get. It should give you a really good rate..

That's not RedHat 😉
