i have adsl service but an sdsl modem, its limiting me to 384 download speed and i should be at 608, so i bought a new adsl modem.

My problem is this, i had my line installed professionaly so i have no idea how he hooked it up. and the connection from the wall is rj45, however my new modem only has input for rj11. How do i get this to work? is there an adapter or is it possible to create one?

Any help is greatly appreciated
Scott

Assuming your installer wasn't Jimmy the Jackleg Redneck, a standard RJ-11 cable will work.
Plug it into the wall outlet and the modem.
Be sure to use any inline filters provided my your ISP or installer.

ok, there is no rj11 jack in the wall, only a rj45. and there is no rj11 jack anywhere nearby.

Just replace the RJ45 jack with a RJ11. The primary pair on the Inside Wire (IW) will either be a White and Blue wire, with or without a tracer, or a Red and Green wire. Those two color combinations are always the first cable pair. If your IW happens to have both, you can use a voltmeter to check for 48volts DC on one side of the pairs.

You never saw the back of the modem you had before you got rid of it to see what kind of connections you had?

Sometimes the rj-45 jack is a combo that you can plug an rj11 into as well, just gotta make sure it's in there straight.
