dsl physical interface?

what kind of physical connection do all of you DSL users have? Is the cable from the wall cat5 [8wire], or normal phone cable [4wire]?

This is really important, as most of the discussion around here about DSL is actually about routers, most of which [SMC/Linksys] are 100% ethernet/rj-45 connectors. However, a friend of mine has DSL, and has to use a Cisco 675; it converts from the 4wire cable [from wall] to cat5 which runs throughout his network.

thanks,

Actually, this is the case with all DSL, not just the Cisco 675 (best setup, BTW). The modem, whether it be internal or external, plugs in to the phone jack and converts the signal.

What everyone is discussing here is what we are doing beyond the connection to the web.

Am i guessing then that everybody has multiple boxes to run their DSL? Why not just have everything built into one modem/router like the cisco 675? Do other companies manufacture such "all-in-one" solutions?
thnx

Actually, in the case of the 675, many features are built in. It does both NAT and DHCP, BUT, it only has one interface. In order to use it with multiple PCs, you still need at least a hub.

Broadband routers that do all (net connection and multiple interfaces) are at the commercial level and they ain't cheap.
