Yo Buddies !

Just moved into a new apartment (with a lower rent, of course). So...was planning to take up DSL or Cable Modem. How does DSL match up against Cable Modem ? I have heard that in Cable modem the bandwidth is shared whereas in DSL the bandwidth is completely ours !! Any helpful hints, tricks etc etc to help me make a good decision ?

So.....practically which is better ?

Sincere Regards

Truthfully, go with whichever service has the best reputation in your area. Both broadband solutions have their positives and negatives, which make them pretty much equal (when the actual service provider is not taken into account). Cable used to be a better value for the most part, but most cable providers have raised their rates in recent weeks, levelling the playing field a little bit.

Check with neighbors who have cable service, and see what their opinions are. Also, ask around, and see how happy those with DSL in your region are. If you do choose to go with DSL, do not order it from one of the major national providers (Earthlink, Prodigy, AOL, etc.). You'll likely get better service and performance from a local or regional ISP, and it's pretty much guaranteed that you'll experience less latency (if you're an avid online gamer, you'll get much better ping times with a local or regional provider).

Depends on where you live cable can either be a whole lot faster than DSL or a whole lot slower. If you live in an area where there aren't that many cable internet users, then cable is definitely what you should get (under normal circumstances, cable is faster than dsl) since the price for the two are about the same.

Doesnt matter to me. Whichever gives me better bandwidth in my area is best, assuming both are equally reliable.
