DSL, no phone line....

Is there any provider in boston that does this (DSL lite)? Paying $42 amonth on cable internet is killing me.

DSL Lite is generally just a lower speed of DSL. I know that Verizon was starting to allow naked DSL (DSL without phone service, still need the line though), but only in upstate NY. That may have changed though, best bet would be to call the local carrier and ask them.

I have to pay $11/month for basic phone service just so I can use the line for DSL (which is another $37/month).

No dial tone needed, DSL works fine without phone service. They just don't normally want you to have it without phone service, and there's no law requiring them to offer it seperately. You do have to have a physical connection still though.

You're not going to save money, even if you could switch. That cable rate is way less than I pay. By the time you factor in the installation and leasing a DSL modem, you'll pay more, most likely.

Well you don't have to lease the Modem. You could purchase one.

The factor that makes it a wash with cable is all the extra Taxes and bogus Fees per month.

Stand alone DSL. Try companies besides Verizon. Smaller companies.
