I'm looking for a DSL Modem and every time I type "DSL Modem" into a search engine all I get is a list of routers. It has occured to me that maybe I don't really know what the hell a "DSL Modem" is. Could someone enlighten me, please?

To put it in the simplest terms, I'm looking for a box to plug my telephone line into that will allow me to tie into my network via my switch. If it includes a router/switch/hub thast would be cool too so long as I can plug my DSL line into it.

Thanks

You might want to get the specs of the service you're wanting to join. There are many types of DSL. There's ADSL, SDSL, XDSL... Once you find out what your on, it will make it easier to figure out what you'll need.

Yeah it is a problem to get DSL Modem in the free market.

Cable Modem is available but not DSL.

A lot of vendors call Cable/DSL Router, Cable DSL Modem Router, so when you punch DSL Modem to a Price Engine you get Routers.

The best source is to try the auction sites; some people sell their modems.

Speak to your vendor first. Talk to the provider and ask them what devices work well on their network, it they cannot provide such a recommendation, you should be worried about future suppor. I prefer a provider that provides their own equipment, that way they cannot blame your equipment as the source of the problem.
