What makes you think I work for a phone co? I don't. I also have never bought a DSL modem since I started using DSL in Jan 2002. Why should I? When I subscribed to the service, the modem was provided by the DSL service provider, i.e. the local phone company, which is EMBARQ (formerly Sprint).
Again, why buy a modem when one is available from the DSL service provider? They won't charge me less for my DSL service if I do that. Also, I have some doubt that they'll provide technical support on modems other than the ones they provide.
The modem I have now is not the original; it went bad but a new one was provided at no charge.
