I'm looking at switching from Cox cable to Qwest DSL and they have the "2 Wire 2700 HG " for $100 are there any less expensive alternatives?

Money wise probably Not, this unit is a combo Modem Wireless Router.

Actually you are better of paying a little more and get two separate units.

The Wireless Router part of the combos usually s*x. In addition a DSL Modem can serve you for long time while Wireless Standards and capacities advance. With a combo you are limited with upgrades.

Example for Independent DSL Modem, Model 5515 ETHERNET ADSL Bridge Modem. ($69).

About wireless hardware here, Wireless What Should I Get?
