Awhile back I put my modem in bridged mode because I was told it would help with my torrent downloads. I did it and it fixed my torrent problems (was saying the port was blocked or something and I was getting low DL speeds).

After I did that I could no longer connect to my DSL modem. Now I'm wanting to get back in to check a few things and I can't connect to it. I can't even ping it. Everything is working fine.

Am I going to have to reset the modem back to default to get into it again?

I don't know why I didn't think of it before, but I downloaded angry ip scanner to scan the possible ip addresses it would be using and I think I found the ip address.

I still can't connect to it though, via a web browser nor via ftp...response times are really low and sometimes it times out when i ping it....avg 333 ms

You can't connect because putting the modem in bridge mode puts it on a different subnet. For example, instead of on 255.255.255.0, it may be on 255.255.0.0.

I can't tell you what subnet you need, but a Google search may reveal what you need to know.

There is a possibility that there is a reset button on the modem. Obviously it would reset it to default settings. Edit: Which in re-reading your post, I see you already know. Duh! :brokenheart:

Hope this helps.

AH, ok... makes sense

Hmm...My DSL modem has a built in firewall. Does being in a bridged mode disable/bypass the firewall or will that stuff still need to be set?

Seems like a pain in the ass to do all the stuff mentioned to get in to configure it.

Are you on earthlink/embarq? I've been having similar problems with torrent connectivity. I worked up till about a week ago.

Embarq

After I bridged it it worked fine but the last time i checked it said i didn't have the port open or something but the download speeds were still fast.
