Dunno if this is a good deal :

Details:
Promotion *** Free Install, Free Hardware + NO Annual Contract!

Contract Term (in months) No Contract Required

Amazon Gift Certificate Details and site...(good til Feb 28th)

Deal good only in those states which are listed.... otherwise 50.00 a month seems high to me

Of course there is no contract so if you say... don't like it after 2 months or (when the GC arrives...)

I called them and they mentioned they assign a Static IP. Could someone tell me the benefit of this?

Your link expired.

Static IP is good so you know what the IP address of your computer is. It doesn't change all the time everytime you reboot like what happen if you have dynamic IP.
It's good if you want to have an Ftp server, webserver, etc.
In general, it's nicer to have static IP but with software/companies like dns2go or dnsalias, it's less of an issue.

I have Telocity, and I love it. It's way better than Bellsouth which I used to have.

Where do you get $39 a month? All I see is $49 when I get there and no mention on a $50 GC from Amazon. I have SWBell and nothing could be worse than them. Thanks for bring this offer up although I only see $49 a month. I am in AR also.

I see it for 39/month. + the 50 Amazon GC (going towards RT314). This is a sweet deal if everything follows through.

Their billing department is horrible. Long wait times to talk to a representative. I cancelled my service 3 months ago and they are still billing me. Talked to two customer reps who told me that my account was cancelled and a credit will be issued. Just found out yesterday that they both lied and the account is still active. Better be careful with who you talk to. Their cancellation policy is total bs. They don't send you a confirmation that your service is cancelled. Instead you have to call back in 5-7 days to verify. Other than that they do have excellent service. Never had downtime with them for more than an hour and that usually happens only once every month or two.

I received a special offer like this via email, sponsored by "Xoom.com which is now NBCI.com". I believe it was valid till Feb. 28 but not sure as I had telocity already and couldn't get the GC for Amazon.com. They did give me 1 month free just for trying though.. :) You have to mention the offer coming from nbci.com. The service is sdsl, with static ip for $39.99. No support for multiple ips though, but they were scheduled to start support for that in Feb. ( using NAT, not sure if that's the term, correct me if I'm wrong ). Hope this helps.

i signed up, the installation and tech support is horrible and take me 2 months to get it setup and more than 5 hours worth of total calling time on tech support.

It is fairly reliable after setup is done, I recommend pacbell over telocity. ( I use both)

This is a great deal, especially with Amazon GC, well until I hit dslreport and found out that the $50 is offered only if u sign on for more than 3 months, and ppl have been getting horrible service, and tech support is not even home. Well $39.95/month and free modem is a hot deal I think, only if you know what you are doing and don't need no stinkin tech support. I use pacbell, they answer fast, but their techs sucks. AND THEY LIE!!!

Static IP means your IP number will not change, for as long as you
have the service. That means you can register your domain with your
IP number and provide WEB, FTP and whatever other kinds of services
you want (contract permitting of course).

Telocity sucks, I have it, and it's MUCH slower than bellsouth. I only have it for the static ip. As soon as I find a home for my webserver, I will switch.

I've had Telocity for over a year now and not a single complaint. In fact all I have is praise.
You must realize that a) Quality of service/throughput s going to vary from region to region. It isn't going to be 100% EVERYWHERE. NO national ISP (dial up, DSL, cable whatever) is going to be perfect. b) usually people only post msgs on msgs boards when they have a grip, but people with praise rarely post. Simple as that.

I'll put it this way: OVer the past 14months or so I've been paying $50/month for over 1mbps SDSL with a static IP. ALL ports open, even got 3 months free when I signed up becuase the install was delayed... BY A DAY. I've recommended Telocity to MANY people and NONE are unhappy with their service. 90% of those people are IT and ISP/netowrk professionals too.

Let me also mention that I (in my line of work) have talked to Telocity Network Architects, CTOs, CEOs and high ranking employeess. EVERYONE was 100% kind, generous and polite. And for that matter knew WTF they were doing.

SOLID company. Good luck dealing and buying DSL from your local RBOC!!! HA!
