I have DSL service from BellSouth. Lately, everytime someone is calling, the DSL connection would be dead. Sometimes, the connection would be dead for no reason.

Plus the line is full of static noise. I have all the filters in place. No cable service in this area, too new and too far so I am stuck with BellSouth. Anyone have these problems with their DSL service? I called BS and the earlier they can help is next Monday.

Have you tried a new filter for your DSL connection? The one SBC sent me was defective.

It may be bad phoneline wireing in your house. One bad connection or cable can mess up dsl royaly. I had to run a dedicated line from the box to my modem at one house I use to live at because the phone wireing was so crapped out.

But I've also had Bellsouth... and can say that their service is unreliable quite often.

EDIT: Don't use any kind of splitters or extensions. Those can also cause problems.

And make double sure you have filters in place correctly.

I deploy ATT/SBC DSL. Your symptoms are definately filter related. When you get a phone call, the device that's getting the ring is blowing out your DSL signal. Unplug all of your phones, then plug them in one by one to see which one is causing the problem. Don't forget that analog modems, fax machines, Tivo and sat. TV receivers, and answering machines will need a filter too if they use phone service.

Your service doesn't suck, something inside your house does.

I've had Bellsouth for 6+ years and it ROCKS. I have to agree that either you have a bad filter(s) or your wiring is bad.

Don't condemn and entire company because your having a problem with it. There are many more satisfied customers with Bellsouth than any other provider I know.

Like BAMAVOO, I guess I'm Blessed! I'd been using BS for the past year now (DSL) and I'm satisfied.

Good luck!

I got Bellsouth DSL years ago (5-6, I can't remember when) and have had it since. It has been great for me. After switching over from Adelphia cable internet (1-way cable at the time), I was blown away with the stability of the connection (living in South Florida makes me no stranger to thunderstorms and cable outages).

Considering your connection problems, I'd have to agree that the problems you are experiencing are related to your filter setup. Fritzo listed a good way to troubleshoot.

Fritzo, I tested the line today by calling the land line via cell. After about 8 riings <no answer machine>, I would heard a long beep like when you have a fax dialing a number, then the DSL green light would gone off. I was unable to test one room because it was locked and no key.

The house have 3 filters <filter then phone in first room, filter then phone in 2nd room, filter then dsl modem but no phone in last room>. All phones are regular phone and not cordless.

I don't think the problem was the wiring because the line was crystal clear the first 2 months before we installed DSL.

Get rid of all the filters except one

Ok, I tested each phone today by unplug all phones then plug them in one by one as Fritzo suggest and they all had the same problem as before <after 8 rings then I heard a long beeping noise as fax machine then DSL went down>. It could not be all 3 filters were bad. This is crap. And I can't unplug all filters but one as dmcowen suggested <too compplicated to me>.
