DS3R mobo and raid?

Just curious...
I already have the Ds3r (http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16813128050 )

By the specs, it supports onboard raid-5?
I was thinking of grabbing 2 more 300gb hd's so I have 4 300 gb hd's and set it up on raid-5, but don't really want to blow 250+ for a raid card. If it does support onboard raid-5, anyone know how good it is?

Also, just to be sure, if I have 4 300gb hd's setup in raid-5, I will have 900gb of useable space, correct?

thanks!

It supports RAID.

Notice the ICH9R south bridge chipset.

The 'R' at the end of the 'ICH9' indicates RAID support. There is however, no firewire support on this board.

ya I already have the board, I didnt need firewire 😉

Do you know anything about the raid on the board? Is it any good etc?
Also, it would be setup via bios I presume, correct? I've never setup raid before, and when it was setup on my server, my host did it, and it was via a 3ware raid card.

A $250+ hardware RAID card vs free onboard RAID?
I wouldn't consider the onboard controller in the same class as a $250+ hardware card.
