I've ordered some memory for my PC, which is likely to use the DS3 mobo (I haven't ordered this yet), but is it possible to use a cheap set of RAM to up the voltages to the RAM so that I can use the G. Skill NR PC2-6400, which needs between 1.9-2.0V? Thanks in advacne.
 
I had a similar problem with my socket AM2 setup and "faster" RAM. Had to use some "normal" RAM to go into BIOS and manually set CAS latency (not VDIMM) before the board will POST with the faster RAM.
 
from what i've heard, yes, you can boot with cheap ram and manually set the CAS and vdimm. I'm banking on this working for my OCZ Platinum PC2 6400. For the cheap memory, just make sure it's something like DDR2-533, cas 3, vdimm 1.8V. a 256MB stick should work fine. Also, I've been told that updating to the F4C bios (i think it's in beta, search the forums here or google it to find it) fixes some of the problems, but obviously you'll still need the cheap ram in order to boot the pc and update the bios.

all of this sure is a pain, but hopefully the OCing potential will make up for it.
 
Hmm. I don't know whether I'll bother with the hassle of doing this. I may just get the Abit AB9 Pro and be done with it. I've heard some pretty good things about that mobo anyway. What problems are being found with RAID and IDE, I'm sure I heard of some (the IDE not working if RAID is enabled) but would like to check them?
 
I had a look at that and unfortunately none of the G. Skill memory is on there. Just an aside, where they say SATA 3GB/s ports, would this DVD drive bo compatible with the socket? I've decided on the AB9 Pro by the way. I was looking at some benchmarks and it was only just below the DQ6 in terms of performance. I'm not especially bothered about overclocking (at least, not at the moment) so I'll go with the AB9. Thanks for the responses.
 
For me I have the OCZ 800 stuff, I had to boot with one stick in, upgraded to the F4C BIOS (Which fixes the ram issue) and then I was fine with both sticks.
 
you managed to boot the first time with the original BIOS? How do you flash the BIOS by the way? I've never done it and wouldn't want to mess it up by doing something wrong.

Edit: Will the F2 full release BIOS work to correct the RAM issue, or is it only the F3B for the DS4 motherboard?
