Details?

There were a few issues regarding memory voltages that were fixed months ago, and some other stuff but without knowing exactly what you mean it's hard to answer the question. I have an S3 (basically a DS3 without solid capacitors) and for what it's worth I plugged everything in and it worked first time.

I have a DS3 Rev1.0 (the first version). I've never had the cold boot problem, but I've read that you only get that problem if you trying to overclock too high.

This is really no different than other motherboards that just lock up and refuse to boot until you reset the CMOS, when you OC too high.

IMO, it's better that it resets itself and BOOTS rather than just sits there.

The DS3 (and S3) are two of the most popular enthusiast S775 (LGA775?) Intel motherboards out there. Well supported with BIOS updates by Gigabyte.

You would be making a wise choice by buying a new one (as opposed to used...no warranty).

Ah. No, as MichaelD said it'll reset the BIOS for you to defaults if you go too far and it won't POST. For example if I turned the PC off, turn it on and went into the BIOS to change my FSB to 550Mhz then tried to save those settings, it'd power off to save the adjustment, try and turn on and boot the PC then it'd go quite for a second when it powers off after restoring BIOS defaults, then it'd boot back up at 266Mhz.

I think you can also have it clear the BIOS to default if you hold Insert as you start up, if you want your overclocked settings removed.
